Weekend Fun for Everyone!

It’s another weekend full of fun in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. If you are into sports we have just what you are looking for. If you are looking at getting your weekly exercise in while supporting a great cause, Cedar Rapids has it. Or if you’re looking at supporting a great cause while enjoying some sweet treats, Cedar Rapids is the place to be.

Start off your Saturday by joining hundreds of others at the Westdale Mall from 10:00am-noon to participate in the Juvenile Diabetes Walk to find a Cure. This annual event raises funds and awareness about this deadly disease in hopes that someday we may find a cure.

Once you get done walking enjoy the afternoon shopping or going out to lunch with friends, but don’t forget to stop by Eby Fieldhouse on the Coe College campus to watch the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship game as the Coe College Women’s Basketball team takes on Simpson at 4:00pm. It’s bound to be exciting.

After the game stop by Upper and Lower Gage on the Coe College Campus for the 10th annual Delta Dessert Gala and grab a sweet treat to support a great cause.
All of the proceeds from the annual Dessert Gala will be donated to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Iowa Heart Connection to help raise funds in hopes to make a difference in the lives of many children currently living with cancer.

And if you’re still looking for something to do after the Dessert Gala, head over to the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena and rock the stable by cheering the Cedar Rapids Roughrider’s on to victory as they take on Fargo at 7:05pm.

Saturday is a full day of fun in Cedar Rapids. So get out there and enjoy it!

The United States Hockey League (USHL) Cedar Rapids Roughriders, an amateur hockey team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa is ready to bring you a thrilling wrap up to their very successful season.

Currently ranked second in the East Division behind Green Bay with a record of 28-15-3, the Roughriders are looking to finish the season strong. With 14 games left and 10 at home, they are ready to rock the stable.

Winter Wonderland

Just when you thought Winter may have come to an end and we were headed for Spring, more flurries have come to grace us with its presence. So why not embrace it?

I think back to when I was a kid and all the crazy winter wonderland adventures I'd get myself into. Here are a list of a few memorable moments.

1. Went sledding in my backyard and ran into a pole. Had a black eye for a week!
2. Built a snow fort in the backyard in an attempt to make an igloo. We fell a little short.
3. Climbing on the snow banks and bruised my tail bone. Had to rest a few days before walking around the mall.
4. Put water on the hill in my backyard to make it extra slippery. We could barely climb to the top of the hill to go down.
5. Went sledding in the backyard again and got stuck under the fence. Had to rip my snow pants just to get me out.
6. Anxiously awaiting a snow day so I could play in the snow and make a snowman.
7. Playing in the snow and sledding for hours. Then coming into the house for a nice cup of hot chocolate and marshmellows.

Oh, the list goes on and on...

I'm sure you have some exciting winter wonderland stories too. Comment and post them on here. Also, get out there this weekend and make new winter wonderland memories before it's too late! Spring is just around the corner so make the most of the winter season while you can!

Cedar Rapids has some great sledding spots: Cleveland Elementary, Roosevelt Middle School, and Shawnee Park are just to name a few. If you have any other favorite spots let me know and let's get out there and enjoy ourselves!

Support a great cause!

Looking for something to do tomorrow night?

Cedar Rapids has some great events going on this Wednesday, February 17th where you can help support two great causes.

First start your night off with an enjoyable dinner at HuHot Mongolian Grill located at the Lindale Mall food court. Stop out between 5:00-9:00pm as the Alzheimer's Association Board of Directors become "Helping Hands" and help serve up hot food on the HuHot grills while raising money and earning tips for a good cause! Celebrity Chef's include KGAN-CBS 2 anchor, Tim Seymour; Chairman, President & CEO of Rockwell Collins, Clay Jones; President & CEO of Mercy Medical Center, Tim Charles; and many more!

I interned with this organization over the summer and have seen what they can do to help the lives of others, but they need your help in continuing to work towards their goal. So stop by and support the Alzheimer’s Association East Central Iowa Chapter here in Cedar Rapids.

Then, once you get done with dinner, head over to Coe College and watch the Women’s and Men’s basketball teams as they take on Central College in the annual "Pink Zone" event, a rally sponsored by the NCAA during the month of February to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Support a great cause and also get the chance to walk away with a free mini pink basketball, which will be thrown out during the game thanks to our Aid to Women sponsors.

So if your not doing anything on Wednesday night please consider making your night one that can help make a difference and support two great causes.
